Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness.
Mark Twain
Travel has always been a pretty core part of my life, either for work or for pleasure. Living in a major tourist destination, I am acutely aware of the extractive nature of tourism and how a tourism-based economy can be a net drain on the society hosting it. I particularly like exploring the intersection of Western modernity (or a rejection of it) on industrialization, particularly as cultures emerging in international influence work to understand their own place in a larger global economy, and especially when it comes to that spreading influence being distributed inequitably within a cultural region.
